Do you have to miss work because of headaches?
Have your headache medications stopped working?
Are you having difficulty focusing or concentrating?
Many people reach for pain medication when looking to get rid of their pounding headaches. While it is true that it can bring some relief, it does not treat the cause of the headache. Instead, medications actually mask the pain and ignore the underlying cause. In time, the next headache appears; and then the next one; and so on.
At Paramount Chiropractic, we believe this is no way to live and are committed to helping you solve your headache issue once and for all.
What is causing my headache?
For a majority of people the cause of their headaches is actually a spinal alignment problem. Let me explain.
Normally, when viewed from the side, the neck is positioned directly over the shoulders and the earlobes align with the shoulder joint.
The farther the head is in front relative to the shoulders the more the nerves in the neck and head get pinched or irritated. This, often times, results in a headache.
In today’s world, many people spend long hours working in front of a computer with poor spinal alignment. Working on a laptop makes matters even worse, as one must constantly look down in order to see the screen. Incidentally, this tends to report the greatest number of headaches.
What type of headache do I have?
In some cases, people keep their computer screen too far away and are constantly sticking their head out in order to see the screen. Over time the muscles in the upper back and neck areas become extremely tight and start to pull on the base of the skull, often resulting in a tension headache. A tension headache is often described as a “squeezing” or “gripping” kind of pain, often times wrapping around the whole head.
Some people suffer from migraine headaches, which are often described as “throbbing” or “pounding” pain. Migraine headaches mostly affect only one side of the head and are often associated with light sensitivity, nausea and, in severe cases, vomiting.
In either type, when the nerves in the neck are being pinched headache sufferers also report having tingling, numbness or weakness down the arm and into the fingers.
What can I do about my headache?
When it comes to addressing the headache, what’s most important is to address not just the headache but also what’s causing it. In a majority of cases, headaches are caused by reduced motion in the neck joints resulting from misaligned vertebrae. This is where Chiropractic comes in.
By restoring normal movement to the spine and correcting forward head posture, over time the nerve pressure will normalize and the misalignment process can ultimately be reversed. In this way we can ensure the headache does not return….ever!
